Celebrating the life of
Joan Gray Slayton
November 29, 1933 - September 11, 2016
Aiken, SC- Joan Gray Slayton had anticipated her journey to Heaven for quite some time. She was waiting patiently to see Jesus and her beloved Eddie. That call came on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at a hospital in Aiken, SC, where she had been for about two weeks. Her son, Chris and friend, Chris Toney, were with her when she began her journey.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Edward Wayne Slayton. her mother, Nannie Ellen Henderson Gray and father, Henry Edward Gray. She was born In Bath, SC.
Joan and Eddie began their life together in North Augusta, SC. They made their way to Tybee Island on a sailboat that Eddie had built in their backyard. They sailed down the Savannah River with their son Chris about the time a hurricane was visiting. They lived on Tybee until Eddie's untimely death in 2011. Joan then moved back to South Carolina to care for Chris through his illness. Joan, Eddie and Chris were members of Chapel by the Sea Baptist Church while at Tybee and Joan was the pianist there for several years.
Joan is survived by her son Chris, granddaughters Rebecca and Patricia and great grandson, Dylan. She had many friends who loved her dearly.
Graveside service will be Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 9 a.m., at Forest LawnMemory Gardens.

My condolences to the Slayton Family on the passing of your loved one. May Jehovah God grant you his peace while you await the fulfillment of his promise at John 5:28 [ to resurrect those who have been asleep in death]. May fond memories of Joan linger in your hearts and bring you peace in the days to come.

As a teenager, the Slayton family was very dear to me when beginning in 1976, their teenage son Chris, was my first love! After over 30 years of no interaction, God brought us all together once more! God is so awesome to allow me to have several years spending time with them and ministering helps. Through this time of serving Chris and Mrs. Slayton, we faced trials together as family and saw God's hand move in miraculous ways as we prayed together, celebrated together, laughed together and cried together! Sadly, after severe injuries, I've been home bound. I will always cherish the times we had together, Ms. Slayton! I can only imagine the celebration in heaven as you reunited with loved ones especially in the presence of God and the arms of your beloved Eddie! You were a wonderful blessing to us all and your love and memories will live on in our hearts until we meet again one day! Our sincerest condolences to all who loved Ms. Slayton. Chris and family, you are in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. May our heavenly Father be as close as your breath and may the peace that passes understanding prevail over grief always. With love, Patrick and Monica Murphy

Joan and Eddie Slayton were two of our dearest friends, they had been in our lives since 1974 when I was very ill, again when I lost my 29 yr old son in 1987 and thru all of Al's surgeries since 2010. Joan called at least twice a month to see how we were doing, I know we were in her every prayer. Although I had not seen her since she moved to Aiken she would call often so I feel I have lost one of my lines to Heaven because I KNEW WHEN JOAN SLAYTON PRAYED FOR YOU, SHE GOT RESULTS. I will miss those calls and prayers but hopefully she and Eddie will still be looking down on us until we meet again! SHE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY. They were 2 of GOd'S people. RIP Dear Joan.
